California Privacy Policy

The California Consumer Privacy Act ("CCPA") as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act ("CPRA") grants certain rights to California residents ("California Resident," "you," or "your") with regard to personal information (as defined below).

If you are a California Resident, please review the following information, which is based on CCPA Regulations § 999.305 (a) (1) and 11 CCR § 7012 (Notice at Collection of Personal Information), about your potential rights with regard to your personal information under the CCPA. Capitalized terms used herein have the meaning ascribed to them in the CCPA.

1. CALIFORNIA INVESTORS

Renaissance Technologies LLC and its affiliates (together, "Renaissance") are committed to protecting your privacy and maintaining the confidentiality and security of your personal information. This policy (the "California Investor Privacy Policy") explains the manner in which Renaissance collects, uses, and maintains nonpublic personal information about former, current, and potential investors that are California Residents, as required under the CCPA. This California Investor Privacy Policy is solely applicable to California Residents who are (i) individual investors or (ii) the beneficial owners, shareholders, executive officers, directors, trustees, general partners, and managing members (or persons acting in a similar capacity) of entity investors that provide personal information (as defined herein) in connection with an investment or potential investment in a private investment fund sponsored by Renaissance.

Notice at Collection of Personal Information

Depending on how you interact with Renaissance, Renaissance collects the following categories of personal information (collectively, "personal information") from you:

  1. Identifiers such as name, alias, postal address, email address, driver's license number, online identifiers, or other similar identifiers.
  2. Categories of personal information described in California Civil Code Section 1798.80, including your education, name, signature, address, telephone number, credit card number, or bank account or other financial information.
  3. Characteristics of protected classifications under federal or certain state laws, including gender, age, national origin, citizenship status, or marital status.
  4. Commercial information, including records of products or services purchased, obtained, or considered or other purchasing histories or tendencies, including funds invested, investments considered, or sources of wealth.
  5. Internet or other electronic network activity information, including interactions with Renaissance's website or use of certain online tools.
  6. Professional or employment-related information, including occupation, compensation, employer, and title.
  7. Inferences drawn from any of the information identified above to create a profile reflecting your preferences or similar information, including your potential interest in investing in Renaissance funds or products.
  8. Sensitive personal information such as social security numbers and passport numbers.

Renaissance will not collect categories of personal information other than those categories listed above. If Renaissance intends to collect additional categories of personal information, it will provide you with a new notice at or before the time of collection.

How Renaissance Uses Your Personal Information

Renaissance uses personal information for business and commercial purposes, such as the following:

  1. To deliver the information, products, or services you requested from Renaissance.
  2. To perform services on your behalf, including maintaining or servicing accounts, providing investor relations services, processing subscriptions and redemptions, or providing similar services.
  3. To communicate with you about Renaissance's products and services.
  4. To carry out Renaissance's obligations and enforce its rights.
  5. To detect security incidents and protect against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity.
  6. To enable or effect commercial transactions, including using bank account details to remit funds and process distributions.
  7. In any other way Renaissance describes when you provide the information or otherwise at your direction or with your consent.
  8. As permitted by law or as Renaissance may notify you.

How Renaissance Collects, Discloses, and Shares Your Personal Information

Renaissance may collect personal information about you from the following sources:

  1. Directly from you when you provide personal information in relation to your investment with Renaissance in account applications, subscription agreements, and other forms.
  2. From third parties as permitted by law, such as Renaissance affiliates and service providers (which may include, e.g., attorneys, accountants, auditors, administrators, or other professionals). Renaissance may also collect personal information from (i) credit reporting agencies, (ii) sanctions screening databases, or (iii) sources designed to detect and prevent fraud.
  3. From public sources including registers, tax authorities, governmental agencies and departments, and regulatory authorities.

Renaissance does not sell or typically share your personal information. Renaissance may, however, share your personal information by disclosing it to third parties for a business purpose in circumstances under which it believes in good faith that disclosure is required or permitted under law, to cooperate with regulators or law enforcement authorities, or to protect Renaissance's rights or property. Renaissance may disclose your personal information to its service providers, other entities that have agreed to limitations on the use of your personal information, or entities that fit within other exemptions or exceptions in or as otherwise permitted by the CCPA or other applicable laws.

Retention of Personal Information

Renaissance will retain your personal information for the purposes described in "How Renaissance Uses Your Personal Information" above for as long as required for those purposes and if Renaissance has a legitimate business purpose that does not outweigh your privacy interests or fundamental rights and freedoms when protected by law.

How We Safeguard Your Personal Information

Renaissance seeks to maintain appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure an appropriate level of security to address potential risks and protect your personal information, including physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards. However, no method of safeguarding information is completely secure. While Renaissance uses measures designed to protect your personal information, Renaissance cannot guarantee that its safeguards will be effective or sufficient. In addition, you should be aware that internet data transmission is not always secure, and Renaissance cannot warrant that information you transmit to Renaissance is or will be secure.

Your California Rights

You have certain rights concerning your personal information, subject to applicable exemptions and limitations, including the right to

  • be informed, at or before the time of collection, of the categories of personal information to be collected and the purposes for which the categories of personal information shall be used;
  • request that Renaissance delete any personal information about you that it has collected, subject to certain exceptions;
  • request that Renaissance, as a business that collects personal information about you and that discloses your personal information for a business purpose, disclose to you (a) the categories of personal information it has collected about you; (b) the categories of sources from which it has collected the personal information; (c) the business or commercial purpose for collecting the personal information; (d) the categories of third parties to whom it disclosed personal information about you for a business purpose; (e) the specific pieces of personal information it has collected about you; and (f) the categories of personal information it has disclosed about you for a business purpose;
  • correct inaccurate personal information about you; and
  • not be discriminated against because you exercise any of your rights under the CCPA.

You may submit a request regarding your aforementioned rights under the CCPA (a "verifiable consumer request"). A verifiable consumer request must provide sufficient information that allows Renaissance to reasonably verify you are the person about whom Renaissance collected personal information or that person's authorized representative and describe your request with sufficient detail to allow Renaissance to properly understand, evaluate, and respond to it. You may submit a verifiable consumer request through the contact methods outlined below under "Contact Information."

2. CALIFORNIA JOB CANDIDATES

Renaissance Technologies LLC and its affiliates (together, "Renaissance") are committed to protecting your privacy and maintaining the confidentiality and security of personal information you supply in connection with your being a possible job candidate, intern, or independent contractor (together, "job candidates") for Renaissance. This policy (the "California Job Candidate Privacy Policy") explains the manner in which Renaissance collects, uses, and maintains nonpublic personal information about former and current California job candidates as required under the CCPA.

Notice at Collection of Personal Information

Depending on how you interact with Renaissance, Renaissance collects the following categories of personal information (collectively, "personal information") from you:

  1. Identifiers such as name, alias, postal address, email address, driver's license number, online identifiers, or other similar identifiers.

How Renaissance Uses Your Personal Information

Your personal information may be processed by Renaissance (or any of its affiliates, agents, employees, delegates, or subcontractors) for the following purposes, as applicable:

  1. To conduct recruitment functions, including adding your personal information to Renaissance's job candidate database.
  2. To assess your qualifications and capability for positions with respect to Renaissance.
  3. To process background checks and for related management and planning purposes as permitted by law.
  4. To communicate with you and monitor and record electronic communications and, if applicable, calls for any of the purposes specified herein.

Renaissance will not use your personal information for materially different, unrelated, or incompatible purposes without notifying you.

How Renaissance Collects, Discloses, and Shares Your Personal Information

Renaissance may provide your personal information to its affiliates and to firms that assist it in managing and operating its recruitment process such as providers of background checks and other third parties when Renaissance determines the disclosure is necessary to protect health and safety, its business interests, or its regulatory or legal obligations; when pursuant to a court order, government request, or other demand; or as otherwise required by law.

Retention of Personal Information

Renaissance will retain your personal information for the purposes described in "How Renaissance Uses Your Personal Information" above for as long as required for those purposes and if Renaissance has a legitimate business purpose that does not outweigh your privacy interests or fundamental rights and freedoms when protected by law.

If your application is successful, Renaissance will keep the recruitment information that is necessary in relation to your employment.
